POSITION PURPOSE

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying and developing long-term, integrated, energy services contracts and will lead the pursuit of new business opportunities by establishing strong relationships with existing and potential clients.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify potential customers and develop relationships with key decision makers in the client organization in order to assess opportunities with the company
  • Act as primary focal point with the client
  • Manage and participate in proposal preparation, pricing and presentations to customers
  • Formulate and write technical proposals reflecting the strategic approach towards developing a new project
  • Lead negotiations with clients, including preparation of contracts and possible structuring of financing solutions
  • Manage internal development activities including technical audits by Veolia development engineers
  • Serve as a close liaison with other members in the Veolia team (operations, finance, legal, insurance, risk management, etc.) throughout the entire sales process
  • Assess competitor strengths, weaknesses and strategic direction

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in business development within the Energy & Utilities or Engineering Services industry
  • 3+ years’ experience within a commercial and/or industrial markets
  • Proven experience working in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic markets
  • Experience in ESCO / Energy Performance Contracting, Microgrids / Distributed Energy, Smart Buildings, Facilities Management Outsourcing, Energy Advisory, Commissioning
  • Hands-on project experience working directly with clients

Certifications / Licenses / Training

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record if operating company vehicles.
  • P.E., CEM and other Industry relevant certifications / trainings are a plus

Knowledge / Skill / Abilities

  • Thorough working knowledge of financial aspects of the business, including how to calculate ROI by utilizing sophisticated financial models using Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of energy service contracts and a proven track record in closing complex deals
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and listen to their needs in order to create customized client solutions
  • Proficient in business development strategies, strong negotiation skills, and extremely driven to results
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to professionally present Sales information to al levels of decision makers
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster teamwork
