Job Description

Position title: Certified Water Treatment Plant Operator Location: Moncton, NB
Full Time Permanent 

The Water Treatment Plant Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining water treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in the water treatment facility to purify water to meet permit and operational requirements

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform all work according to safety standards and operational processes
  • Perform basic math calculations
  • Operate equipment such as pumps, generators, valves, gates, mixers, blowers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment
  • Monitors flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures and related controls through instrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logic control units in assigned area 
  • Monitor and record operating condition observations and data in area shift log
  • Ensure conformance to process specifications; diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure
  • Verify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor and takes corrective actions
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance and maintenance related items as assigned
  • Perform manual labor including cleaning equipment, facilities and grounds as required.
  • Perform minor maintenance including, but not limited to, routine preventive maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments
  • Operate vehicles for plant operational purposes
  • Practice good housekeeping in assigned area and properly disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies
  • Perform laboratory  tests (chemical, physical and biological) in order to pace chemical dosages for process control
  • Monitor process chemical supplies and reorder according to procedure.
  • Perform routine instrument calibration for online meters including, but not limited to pH, Color, turbidity,DO, ORP & Chlorine
  • Perform routine laboratory tests according to inspection and test plan. Evaluate results to determine if they meet established objectives

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to pass a criminal record
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English
  • First level water treatment plant operator certificate; minimum of water license required by regulatory agencies on site
  • 6 months - 2 years experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of methods, techniques and practices of water treatment
  • Ability to learn and work independently and as a team when required
  • Working ability to use computer programs for process control (SCADA)
  • Ability to work on call every 4th week and assume additional duties as required
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and a safe driving record
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job; lift up to 25kg, standing 25% of shift, walking on job site 75% of shift, etc.
