POSITION PURPOSE
To act as the Director of Commissioning for the Mission Critical department of Facilities and Building Services (FBS). Be the company representative to Mission Critical clients on multimillion-dollar time sensitive mission critical projects in Canada, US, Mexico and various other countries. Lead a team of SourceOne managers and their direct employees, SourceOne subcontractors and delegated client vendors contracts for client’s national infrastructure projects, namely Data Centers, Financial Institutions and Power Plants.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be a Leader of a team of managers and their respective teams of Engineers
- Responsible for hiring, employee compensation planning, employee progression, employee development plans.
- Be a strong focal point within the MC group on planning growth, strategies for team location and recruiting to meet the growth need, keep a strong sense of the market movement and how to limit growth risk and take advantages of market needs.
- Be a strong subject matter expert for all aspects for Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation engineering related to Utilities and Mission Critical environments with an open door policy to any in the organization.
- Manage a team of managers direct reports.
- Set team assignments, schedules, leadership styles and manager mentoring.
- Validate work of others and occasionally develop procedures, methods and testing scripts for clients, projects, internally and externally for complex power, hydraulic and cooling systems for Data Centers, Financial Institutions and Power plants.
- Lead and/or support client meetings, schedules, issue resolutions, conflict resolution, deficiency resolutions for projects.
- Lead on behalf of FBS in Client multiyear framework pricing and negotiations both domestically and internationally in terms of multi-year cost, taxes, T&Cs and scope.
- Craft proposals for client RFPs and project pricing requests, maintaining booked revenue and P&L needs.
- Lead the requests, logistics and timing of international immigration paperwork for US&Canada employees working internationally and for foreign employees working within the US.
- Assist with Veolia/SourceOne departmental budgets, KPI’s, financial planning, Salesforce opportunity planning, monthly invoices and change orders as needed.
- Be the final point of checking all documentation of contractors, sub-contractors, client representatives, 3rd party vendors for correctness and accuracy as gathered by subordinates.
- Back check and ultimate accountability for the work of Direct Reports.
- Approve administrative tasks for direct reports such as time cards, overtime, travel expenses, travel authorizations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Role will require up to and including 30-70% travel.
Role can be a stressful role, good time management is a must.
Working environment requires the employee to be in High Energy areas such as central plants, switch gear rooms and power transmission areas typical of Mission Critical environments such as Power Generation Plants and Data Centers.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
- ~20 years of electrical/mechanical/instrumentation industry knowledge, of which 5-10 years must have been in the Data Center industry.
- Bachelors of Engineering or Bachelors of Science in a relevant engineering subject such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, energy engineering or equivalent is a must.
- Proven management and leadership skills of a diverse cultural background of direct reports
- Demonstrated experience managing design, energy services and commissioning projects and project resources to a pre-determined scope, fee and schedule.
- Demonstrated knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards, such as ASHRAE and LEED.
Knowledge / Skill / Abilities
- Thorough understanding of Mission Critical systems associated with the MEP equipment of Data Centers and Power Plant Distribution. Including but not limited to High Voltage and Medium Voltage switchgear. Main Switch boards up to 5000A. Back up Generation. Uninterruptable Power Systems (UPSs). Static and Automatic Transfer systems. Other applicable power transfer equipment ranging from 600V a.c/d.c and lower. HVAC equipment related to Chiller Plants, Evaporative Cooling, CRAH’s, CRAC’s, Pumping systems, Variable Frequency Drives. Plant control systems such as BMS, SCADA, PLC’s, ALC and interconnecting communications protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, Canbus and others. Experience with wide ranging instrumentation from sensors, levels, pressures, temperatures and other instruments and devices typical of PID control loops.
- Be self-motivated and well versed in projects touching on large building MEP systems design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, energy modeling/analysis and construction for complex buildings. Assessment, optimization and/or commissioning activities for utility plants will also be expected.
- Great people and negotiating skills and able to understand and communicate according to the personality type / learning style of the individual
- Great time management and able to work under the pressures of schedule demands.
- Ability to be resourceful to find solutions to fast paced complex problems.
- Able to think technically about Mission critical systems and verbalize for a less technical audience.
- Able to drive project expectations to conclusion.
- Be financially conscious.
- Role may occasionally require times of work to happen through night-time maintenance windows or weekends as client project demands typical of the Mission Critical industry.
- Be a role model of composure for direct reports under difficult client projects.
- Be a mentor for direct reports and subject matter expert for direct report growth.
- Be able to interview and run the selection of candidates to fill team needs and growth
Required Certification / Licenses / Training
- P.Eng preferred but not essential
- PMP certified preferred but not essential
- DiSC trained a plus
- Canadian CSA Z462 Electrical Safety qualified, or U.S NFPA 70E accepted as equivalent
- InfraRed Thermography Certified preferred
- Much better than average computer skills
