Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Corporate Development Team identifies, evaluates, and executes M&A transactions and target investments for Veolia North America (“VNA”).  Focus areas of investment include “seed” commercialization projects (i.e., development of new business activities) and complex organic growth projects that may require external financing. M&A and strategic investments are a key part of VNA’s growth strategy, so this position represents a vital role within the company. Corporate Development leads all aspects of the deal process, including initial screening,  project screenings, idea generation, valuation, due diligence, and negotiation of legal documentation. This is a high-visibility role with extensive interaction with VNA senior management. This position will also play a key role in establishing the newly created Development, Strategy and Innovation Team (DSI). The DSI function includes everyone with a commercial role throughout the organization and across all Business Units (‘BUs”) - sales teams, business developers, marketers, proposal writers, etc. 

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project lead for M&A acquisition
  • Participate in the targets identification, market research, deal execution (acquisitions, divestments, JV…), monthly reporting to top management and any further analysis needed for the water, waste, and energy markets in North America
  • Participate in developing and/or maintaining/ improving financial models for defined projects
  • Coordinate strategic initiatives between the five Business Units’ Growth Partners and support any reporting effort between (i) the 5 Business Units and Veolia North America as well as between (ii) Veolia North America and Veolia Group in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide any additional analysis for the Veolia Seeds department (e.g. Electric Vehicles batteries, Biogas projects etc.) such as market research or NPV analysis for future investments
  • Provide, when needed, analysis of selected strategic initiatives that are at the Company, as well as market studies on specific business opportunities in North America
  • Ensure M&A policies and procedures are complied with at all times and coordinate preparation of  Corporate approval documents
  • Support the development and screening of potential transactions from internal and external “deal sources”, and from their own strategic market and technical research and in collaboration with BUs
  • Create presentation materials for executive management, potential partners, and customers
  • Work with the BUs and external advisors to proactively establish a robust pipeline of acquisition prospects
  • In charge of running ad hoc analysis when required to support operations and/or the corporate office (deep costs analysis, profitability analysis, headcount analysis, sales efficiency analysis, compensation plan analysis…) and of performing overview to ensure data integrity

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • Master’s degree in finance, international business, business management or equivalent, or MBA (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years of corporate finance experience with preferred 5 years in  Mergers & Acquisitions related activities
  • Experience with performing strategic analysis and using financial models strongly preferred
  • Proven experience to work across functional teams
  • Experience and knowledge in the US water, waste, and energy industry is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

  • Ability to anticipate, identify and resolve complex issues with data interpretation and not just extraction
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills (proactive and forward thinking)
  • Capacity to work under pressure and tight deadlines (addressing multiple concurrent projects is essential)
  • Understanding of business management, ability to synthesize diverse, even contradictory, pieces of information into an integrated picture
  • Understanding of financial ratios and how to apply them to financial modeling
  • Ability to cross departmental lines (e.g. legal, technical, etc.) & apply good business judgment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (incl. presentation skills)
  • Experience with Google Suite of products
