Job Description
This position provides wrap-around environmental services to our clients, primarily for the safe handling and management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. As an entry-level position with a full-service environmental firm, this role is designed to build expertise in the industry through direct field experience and prepare your career for the many growth opportunities that Veolia offers.
Responsibilities may include:
Supporting customer activities as Veolia’s on-site representative with respect to waste characterization, hazardous waste collection and disposal, chemical safety, waste minimization, as well as hazardous materials shipping, storage, and handling
Transporting hazardous and non-hazardous wastes following the acquisition of a Commercial Driver’s License and industry-specific training on local routes in a Class B vehicle
Coordinate customer deliverables with Veolia support staff off-site including but not limited to the customer service team, technical services, transportation group, accounting, and field teams
Communicating on-site safety concerns to Veolia support staff and collaborating with EHS staff on behavior-based safety recommendations
Overseeing the transfer of shipment and service ticket documentation such as Manifests, Activity Reports, Weight Tickets, etc.
Sampling waste streams according to prescribed policies and procedures
Maintaining a positive relationship with clients by answering inquiries and suggesting solutions to existing/potential problems
Maintaining the customer’s central waste accumulation area as well as satellite accumulation areas throughout their facility
Complying with and enforcing all environmental, health, safety, and procedures in accordance with Veolia policies
Understanding and building familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT)/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Veolia regulations required in submitting paperwork to facilitate the disposal of hazardous waste
Operating and maintaining field equipment
Participating in training exercises, hazard assessment, and individual growth objectives
Coordinating customer deliverables with Veolia support staff off-site including but not limited to the customer service team, technical services, transportation group, sales, accounting, and other field crew members.

Benefits and Compensation
Entry-level applicants meeting minimum qualifications for an Environmental Specialist - Level 1 may be offered $22.00 to $28.00 per hour

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety or related science discipline preferred but not required
Prior work experience in the hazardous waste or related industry is highly desirable
Certification/Licenses:
40-hour HAZWOPER Certification (Training offered for new hires)
Valid Driver’s License
A valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous (H) endorsement is strongly preferred but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Collaborative problem solving
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Time management specifically the ability to understand and communicate changes with your assigned schedule
Strong customer service orientation
Computer proficiency in windows, word, excel, and e-mail at a minimum
Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus
Ability to follow through on long-term projects
Solid understanding of basic chemistry, hazards of chemicals
