Job Description

The Field Technician will perform field maintenance, inspection, installation or repairs in one or more areas such as system protection, service (tap) and system connections, and inspecting and maintaining valves and pumps.
Performs inspections for service line repairs, replacements and leaks. Performs system locates. Performs investigations of leak and high bill service orders. Learns to perform installations of taps on PVC, Metallic and Poly pipe. Learns to record all required tap documentation. Learns to inspect meters, valves and hydrants and becomes proficient at troubleshooting to determine repairs needed.
Dismantles equipment to gain access to and repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing devices. Re-assembles and tests equipment ensuring safe and efficient operating condition is restored. Performs new meter installations.
Performs routine and preventative maintenance on equipment. Cleans equipment and work area as required and properly disposes of waste according to safety and environmental policies. Operates vehicles for field service purposes.
May assist with emergency valve shut-outs.

Job Requirements

  • High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (maps, operational, maintenance, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Some vocational training and mechanical aptitude preferred, with the ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.
  • Six months to two years experience in a related position with ability to comprehend specifications, drawings and manuals
  • Experience using power, pneumatic, hydraulic, and hand tools.
  • Experience using pressure gauges and precision measuring instruments.
  • Must have ability to use a computer or computer device for record keeping.
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently perform assigned duties and meet or exceed production and quality goals.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work well and communicate with clients, management and the general public.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
