Job Description

Veolia Energy has entered a long-term O&M Services Agreement with Georgia Renewable Power. GRP is currently building two 65 MW biomass-fueled power plants in north Georgia. These plants, in Franklin and Madison counties, respectively, are targeting Commercial Operation at the start of the second quarter next year. Veolia Energy will be supporting the commissioning and startup, and is putting together high performance teams for each plant now.

Summary: This is an experienced skilled work position consisting of a range of clerical and operational duties. The position is responsible for monitoring and sampling boiler steam and boiler and cooling tower water.  This position will also be responsible for sampling waste/process and storm water which will require shipment for lab analysis.  The position will also obtains fuel samples and performs field lab work including measuring of moisture content on an as required basis. This position will primarily report to the Operations Manager with secondary reporting requirements to the Environmental & Safety manager  

  • Obtain fuel samples in the field and perform moisture content tests on-site. 
  • Obtain waste/process water, storm water, and fuel samples following all company policies and procedures to ensure product integrity and quality control.
  • Assist with daily monitoring, testing, and calibrating of permitted compliance equipment.
  • Obtain boiler water samples and perform water analysis testing on-site.  
  • Provide training to plant employees on performing water analysis testing.  
  • Prepare samples to ship to Lab for analysis if needed.
  • Analyze retrieved data and communicate results to management.
  • Archive certain documents into data management system


Job Requirements

- High school diploma or equivalent.  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Two+ years of experience in waste/process water, storm water, and fuel sampling.
- Ability to travel between the Madison County and Franklin County Plants.  Must have dependable transportation and maintain a valid driver license with safe driving record.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to perform routine data entry and basic mathematical calculations. 
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain accurate and legible records and archive documents and data into a company data management system.
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and procedures and to quickly develop proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.
- Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
-Must be able to multitask readily without direct supervisor input.
-Must be willing to accept and respond to assistance requests from either plant during non-normal working hours.

Work Environment: 
Spends 75% of time outdoors or in a plant environment. This may include extreme temperatures of hot and cold.

Possible Work Hazards: 
May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, airborne particles, and noise, rotating machinery, high pressure, hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.  Minimal exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Physical Demands: 
Amount of time spent – Standing 40%, Sitting 20%, Walking 40%.
Requires close visual and hearing observation.  Constantly uses hands to finger, handle or feel and frequently reaches with hands and arms. 
Must be able to lift and carry 25.  Occasional stooping, bending or kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing and entering confined spaces.  Close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus are special requirements.
