Job Description

Title: Lead Operator/Mechanic
 
Reports to:      Site Manager
Facility:             Facility that produces steam with pressures up to 635 psi, process water and compressed air for a third party client.
 
Summary of Position
                        Under minimal supervision performs the work in the operation, preventative, corrective maintenance and modification of various electrical/electronic and pneumatic controls, transmitters, flow meters, data acquisition system, process control systems, boilers and related equipment, fuel systems, compressed air systems, and other related fixed and portable equipment.
                                                                     Description of Duties
1.     Primarily responsible for the operation, preventative maintenance and repair of boilers, fuel, steam, water and compressed air systems. Maintains the reliability and accuracy of various sales meters and data acquisition systems.
2.     Maintains and assists in documenting and maintaining equipment operation logs, and Preventive Maintenance/Corrective Maintenance records of equipment.
3.     Schedules repairs and corrective maintenance.
4.     Operates high pressure boilers, fuel, steam water and compressed air systems in the highest achievable state of efficiency in a safe and reliable manner with minimum to no supervision.
5.     Diagnoses system malfunctions and a variety of mechanical, pneumatic and/or electrical equipment. Repairs or replaces defective parts, reassembles and tests repaired equipment.
6.     Responds to calls for emergency repairs, completes repairs and documents services rendered.
7.     Performs minor construction and equipment installations, coordinates repairs with outside contractors, acquires bids and quotes for repairs and new projects and forwards to the appropriate manager.
8.     Schedules Boiler Inspections per the PM program
9.     Maintenance plant inventory of supplies as needed to maintain the facility and support maintenance in the plant.
10.  Assist management with the annual budget and capital improvement planning.
11.  Maintain records in compliance with Federal, State and Local requirements.
12.  Assists in perform the monthly safety inspections
13.  Assists in maintaining the Overtime Board for the Facility
14.  Perform other duties as required by the Site Manager.
 
Environmental Conditions
May be exposed to hazardous and disagreeable environmental conditions, including hazardous release of ammonia gases from the surrounding area, dirt, grease, noise, heights, confined spaces and areas/tasks where caution must be exercised to ensure safety.
 

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skill and Experience Requirement
1.     Ability to lead and supervise maintenance evolutions or projects
2.     Knowledge of Management Practices
3.     Knowledge of basic organizational procedures
4.     Ability to operate, troubleshoot and repair high pressure steam boiler systems, fuel handling systems, compressed air systems, water systems and other related systems on his own with minimum supervision.
5.     Thorough knowledge of the facility electrical power distribution system.
6.     Working knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting
7.     Knowledge of Safety and OSHA standards
8.     Basic Carpentry
9.     Knowledge of power generation systems
10.  Ability to use and trouble shoot various measuring instruments, process systems, mechanical, electrical and maintenance of equipment.
11.  Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously in a smooth and orderly fashion.
12.  Ability to manage the PM/CM programs
13.  Ability to read blueprints
14.  Ability to instruct others in the performance of tasks and complex repairs.
15.  Ability to perform electrical, electronic, pneumatic and mechanical repairs
16.  Ability to assist management in the training of plant personnel
Education
1.     High School Graduate or GED
2.     Appropriate trade/vocational/technical training is desired but not needed.
3.     Journeyman Certification is desired but not needed in Power Plant Operations.
Physical Requirements
1.     Physical requirements may be met with the aid of mechanical devices. They are minimally necessary for the safe completion of duties. They are not intended to discriminate against handicapped persons, only to ensure safe working conditions for all personnel.

c.      Fully mobile on steps, ladders etc.
d.     Sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools, gauges, valves etc.
e.      Able to bend, stoop and lift up to 50 pound objects.
2.     Mechanical assistance devices may not be such that they interfere with normal safety aids (modified if necessary) such as safety goggles/glasses, hearing protection, hardhats etc.
