What we do:
Veolia West Bridgewater, MA features the latest state-of-the-art recycling of fluorescent lamps, ballast, batteries, computer electronics and mercury-bearing waste. The 55,000 square foot West Bridgewater facility is a MADEP permitted Class C recycling facility for mercury recovery activities and a USEPA permitted TSCA/ballast storer and processor. The facility serves industrial, commercial and government organizations across West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and the New England States.

Job Summary 
Responsible for the off-loading of vehicles delivering lamps, ballasts, batteries and other universal waste received from customers and other VESTS facilities. Responsible for the sorting and preparing of the materials for processing. Responsible for preparing packaging for shipment for shipment to customers. Responsible for operating recycling equipment. Responsible to record information on materials received per company policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 
• Ability to manually lift boxes or containers so as to feed lamps into a recycling unit and ensure they are properly processed.  Containers with lamps weighing up to 50 pounds are common with occasional weights of 75 pounds. Corrugated boxes, (taped shut) or corrugated drums or lamps on pallets hold light bulbs to be recycled.     
•  Ability to operate a drum cart for movement of materials.
•  Ability to operate a manual and/or an electric or motorized pallet jack.
•  Ability to learn and operate recycling equipment as requested by Supervisor
•  Ability to use a variety of hand tools for the opening and closing a materials packaging.
•  Separate lamps by glass type if not previously separated properly.
•  Separate batteries and ballasts by type if not previously separated properly.
•         Package and label accumulation containers of universal waste batteries.
•         Utilize personal protective equipment.
•         Complete required daily logbook to record work performed.
•         Tolerate a variety of environmental conditions.
•         Ability to record accurately the production and processing of materials per standard operating procedures.
•         Must participate in all scheduled training sessions.
•         Must be able to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
•         Other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor, Operations Manager or Plant Manager.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:
 
  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) is preferred
  • 1 – 2 years prior work experience in the hazardous waste or related industry helpful, but not required.

 
Certification and/or Licenses Required:
 
  • Requires certification in the use of an electric pallet jack and a motorized forklift. Training and certification is provided on the job.

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 
  • Ability to read and interpret shipping documents, safety rules, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10’s and 100’s.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical exam including a drug screen.
  • Must be able to work with members of different departments within the facility
