Job Description

The Material Waste Handler/Labourer is responsible for managing waste, recycling programs and the destruction of pharmaceutical and chemical waste by following programs and systems in place for legal, safety and corporate compliance. The successful candidate will also be assisting with basic maintenance, repair and routine and on-demand services on non-technical facility components (ie. walls, floors, etc.) on a as needed basis.

  • Complete general Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) training 
  • Serve as a consultant to facility personnel in recommending specific courses of action when disposing of certain materials
  • Requisition of relevant tools and supplies
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly fashion
  • Sort pharmaceutical waste in appropriate waste stream
  • Maintain an inventory of all regulated and non-regulated pharmaceutical and chemical waste
  • Maintain the Ministry of Environment Manifests, Bill of Lading and Certificate of Destruction paperwork
  • Segregate hazardous chemical waste appropriately 
  • Prepare waste for shipping
  • Arrange pick-up of all waste streams according to the vendors that are in place
  • Collect and replenish fresh and waste acetonitrile and methanol to the Quality Control  Laboratory and Pharmaceutical Development Laboratories 
  • Responsible for assisting with maintenance, repair and routin and on-demand services on non-technical facility components (ie. walls, floors, etc.)
  • Responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements
  • Attend facility sponsored training 
  •  Report violations under various areas to manager/supervisor (ie. EHS, OSHA, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, etc.)
  • Report defective materials, faulty operation of equipment and other topics to manager/supervisor
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all data and information related to the facility

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma 
  • General knowledge and experience in sorting waste, recycling, and chemical or pharmaceutical waste
  • Excellent problem solving skill, decision making and crisis management
  • Adaptability and self motivated to complete assigned work
  • Ability to work as a team or individually as assigned by task
  • Professional attitude with a strong customer service focus
  • Basic computer and software skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification is required (training to be provided)
