Job Description

The Operator I operates and maintains sludge, de-watering treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in refinery/industrial facility to meet customer specifications.

•       To read processing schedules, operating logs, test results to determine changes in equipment controls to produce specified quantity and quality of product.
•       To read temperature gauges, level gauges, vacuum gauges, pressure gauges, and flowmeters; and to record readings and compile operating records.
•       To move and adjust control process variables such as temperatures, flows, pressure, and vacuum to maintain process at required levels or to correct problems.
•       To monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level and flow gauges and perform regular unit checks, to ensure that equipment is operating as it should. Must also during inspections determine location and nature of malfunction such as leaks, breaks and faulty valves.
•       To clean, maintain and repair equipment using hand tools.
•       To determine need for schedule maintenance and request that repair and maintenance be performed.
•       Perform preventative maintenance, i.e. greasing, changing oil but not limited to these items.
•       To collaborate with other operators to solve unit problems.
•       Must demonstrate ability to learn and operate equipment, i.e forklifts, back-hoes and skid-steer.
•       Start and Shutdown unit equipment.
•       Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets.
•       Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, belt presses and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.
•       Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.

Job Requirements

•       High School education or equivalent with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).

Must have a current TWIC card.
•       Some experience in a related position and environment preferred.
•       Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control.

•       Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
•       Must be able to pass a drug test and a criminal background check.
•       Must demonstrate proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.)
•       Must consistently demonstrate the ability to operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets under general supervision. Watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly.
•       Must demonstrate ability to efficiently operate equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, belt presses, and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment. Controlling operations of equipment.
•       Must have the ability to diagnose process and mechanical problems in single or multiple unit processes, troubleshoot basic equipment and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
•       Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control. Determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do.
•       Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. Communicating effectively in writing. Speaking to others to convey information correctly.
•       Must be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours to support the needs of the project.
Must be able to serve in a rotational schedule to include rotating between days and nights and covering weekends.
  Some experience in a related position and environment preferred.
