Job Description

Under general direction, operates, services, and maintains steam centrifugal chillers and hot water generators (boilers), to include operation of all associated equipment, in order to provide an efficient energy source to customers in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Evaluates and maintains proper operation of all machinery.
  • Follows and promotes standard and established practices, refers to operation and service manuals to evaluate and maintain proper operation of all machinery.

  • Provides continuous operations of pump sets.
  • Performs water testing, identifies and informs appropriate individual of symptoms requiring maintenance action.
  • Monitors machinery for noise, and vibrations to ensure the safe operating condition of machinery and takes immediate corrective action should unsafe conditions exist.
  • Maintains fuel, hydraulic, coolant, and water levels of engines, boilers, expansion tanks, compressors, pumps and related equipment. Services filters, strainers, cooling tower screens, as needed.
  • Reads and interprets information and instructions on safety data sheets
  • Applies knowledge of hand and power tools and general repair knowledge to assist in the maintenance and repair of engines, boilers, compressors, pumps and all associated equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains engines, chillers and other equipment and performs general cleaning in the chiller/boiler room area.
  • Assists in other areas of plant as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Typically holds Boiler Operator’s License Must be available to work occasional scheduled or unscheduled overtime, as required. Must be present and ready to begin working at the designated time
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and efficiency targets.
  • Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. Must have ability to interface diplomatically with other employees and the public.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts that include holidays, nights and weekends. Performs and promotes work in a safe manner according to established safety procedures and reports or rectifies any unsafe conditions.
