The Plant Operator is a position requiring a Grade 3 MA License ***or Grade 2 and willing to obtain Grade 3 within 6 months of hire date***
Schedule:
Cycle 1, ON for 8 days:
Tues & Wed 7am-3pm
Thurs, Fri , Sat, Sun 7am-7pm
Monday & Tuesday 7am-3pm
then you are OFF for 6 days.
Then you do Cycle 2, ON for 8 days:
Tues & Wed 3pm-11pm
Thurs 11pm-7am
Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon 7pm to 7am
Tuesday 11pm-7am
then you are OFF for 6 days
then you go back and do Cycle 1 again

$2,000.00 annual bonus for Grade 4
Differential - Additional $1.50/hr for 3pm-11pm, $3.00/hr for 11pm-7am. Overtime is offered as well.

This position is handling INDOOR OPERATIONS of the Plant.
This is a ‘hands-on’ operation and monitoring of power plant and fuel handling equipment as directed by the Shift Supervisor and Control Room Operator.
Ensure the plant and fuel handling equipment are operated in compliance with applicable regulations and company procedures and policies,
Perform plant rounds and effectively communicate plant operating conditions and status to the Shift Supervisor and Control Room Operator.
Complete basic boiler feedwater and boiler water tests and adjust chemical feed rates and boiler CBD rates accordingly.
Operate fuel handling/transfer equipment (conveyors, feeders, etc.), Isolate and de-isolate equipment as part of the LOTO process.
Troubleshoot operational problems, provide input into solutions and initiate maintenance requests.
Assess risks posed by identified problems and ensure management and other plant personnel are made aware of those risks.
Short term stand in for Control Room Operator, as required.
Complete required logs and reports.
Maintain a clean, safe work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
The position requires a broad background in plant operations including boilers and auxiliaries, steam turbine-generators, fly ash and bottom ash, water treatment and biomass fuel handling. General knowledge and experience in industrial safety are required.
Skills:
Good communication (written and verbal), negotiation and influencing skills are all essential.
Solid computer skills: proficiency with database, spreadsheet, email, and word processing software required; Microsoft Office and Windows preferred.
Required Certification / Licenses / Training
Must have Grade 3 MA License or Grade 2 with ability to obtain Grade 3 within six months of hire.
Possess a valid BC Interprovincial Fourth Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency.
Possess or be able to obtain First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work, occasionally for prolonged periods, in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions. Must be able to tolerate dust and other airborne particles and work around other materials such as biomass, diesel and lube oils. Under certain conditions while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator. Required to wear safety equipment and clothing where appropriate. May require frequent stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, carrying and moving heavy objects with assistance when required. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, and high-lifts, and in confined spaces.
HOURS OF WORK: Twelve (12) hour shift work will be required.
