Plant Operator in Fort St James, British Columbia.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure the plant and fuel handling equipment are operated in compliance with applicable regulations and company procedures and policies
  • Perform plant rounds and effectively communicate plant operating conditions and status to the Shift Supervisor/Shift Engineer and Control Room Operator
  • Complete boiler feedwater and boiler water tests and adjust chemical feed rates and boiler CBD rates accordingly
  • Operate fuel handling/transfer equipment (conveyors, feeders, etc.
  • Isolate and de-isolate equipment as part of the LOTO process
  • Troubleshoot operational problems, provide input into solutions and initiate maintenance requests
  • Assess risks posed by identified problems and ensure management and other plant personnel are made aware of those risks
  • Short term stand in for Control Room Operator, as required
  • Complete required logs and reports
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment
  • Performing plant clean-up and preventative maintenance activities
  • Operation of the following heavy equipment - Manlift and Skid Steer
  • Performing plant clean-up and preventative maintenance activities
  • Assist Operations and Maintenance crews
  • Conduct inspections, analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions and take corrective action, as required; initiate maintenance requests
  • Actively participate in the plant Lock Out/Tag Out program to ensure tasks are completed safely
  • Provide relief for the Assistant Shift Engineer / Control Room Operator
  • Actively participate in preventative and corrective maintenance programs
  • Interpret plans, drawings and specifications related to operation of plant equipment
  • Inform incoming shift personnel and other persons concerned of matters requiring attention and the operating status of plant equipment
  • Adhere to applicable safety and environmental standards, regulations and company policies
  • Participate in continuous educational and professional development, both internal and external
  • Direct, coach, train, orient and work effectively with other staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Requirements and Skills
  • The candidate will possess a valid BC Interprovincial Third Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency
    Previous experience in an industrial setting would be an asset
  • Experience with Material Handling
  • Experience working with biomass
  • Experience with commissioning
  • Experience in plant operations including boilers and auxiliaries, steam turbine-generators, fly ash and bottom ash, water treatment
