POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the guided direction of the Project Manager or Operations Manager, the Project Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of a team of assigned field employees that may include but is not limited to Environmental Specialists, Field Services Supervisors, Drivers, Heavy Equipment Operators, Material Handlers and subcontractors. Under the direction of his/her direct manager, the incumbent has the primary responsibility to provide services to clients that result in the safe disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials per established customer job specifications, company policy, safety compliance, and regulatory guidelines. This position may routinely assist with the planning and preparation of project estimates, proposals, and contracts and may work at a customer site, branch location, or in the field.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Act as working lead with work teams(s) by assigning work activities to team members.
2. Complies with all applicable governmental regulations, and VES-TS policies and procedures.
3. Recognize and act on opportunities to increase value added services that benefit customers.
4. Maintain a professional image to clients by answering inquiries and suggesting solutions to existing and/or potential problems.
5. Comply and enforce all compliance, health and safety, and procedures according to departmental procedures.
6. Ensure completion and accuracy of all DOT/EPA and VES-TS regulations required in submitting paperwork.
7. Oversees the operation and maintenance of all equipment to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
8. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background:
● BS in Chemistry or BA in a related science discipline or equivalent work experience required
● 5 to 7 years of hazardous waste experience required
● 1 to 2 years of project management experience preferred
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
● Knowledge of disposal capabilities and limitations prior to shipping waste materials to ensure efficient disbursement and storage.
● Computer proficient in windows, word, excel, and access or other company programs
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
● Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines, simultaneous tasks, and multiple projects/people as necessary
● Strong customer service orientation
● Possess the ability to follow through on projects to completion.
● Complete knowledge and understanding of contract provisions and terms.
● Ability to create & prepare reports as necessary
● Strong knowledge and understanding of basic chemistry and the hazards of chemicals
● Strong knowledge of 40 and 49 CFR and frequently used citations
● Must be able to effectively participate in projects involving environmental matters with other support staff and make recommendations to supervisors.
● Responsible, in coordination with Project Manager, for conducting staff analysis necessary to accomplish projects with assigned customers to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies as well as applicable federal, state, and local agencies
● Under guided direction, the incumbent is responsible for reviewing and analyzing legislation, environmental documents, and environmental regulations that may impact the District.
