Job Description

Veolia Water Canada is currently accepting applications for a
                                      Water (OIC) Operator in Bancroft Ontario
This Part-time temporary position (approx. 20 hours per week, 1 year contract)
Job Responsibilities
  • Sets operational parameters for the subsystem or for a process that controls the effectiveness or efficiency of the subsystem
  • Directs or instructs other operators in the subsystem to set such operational parameters
  • Shall take all steps reasonably necessary to operate the processes within his or her responsibility in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the relevant operations manuals
  • Shall ensure that the processes within his or her responsibility are measured, monitored, sampled and tested in a manner that permits them to be adjusted when necessary
  • Shall ensure that records are maintained of all adjustments made to the processes within his or her responsibility.
  • Shall ensure that all equipment used in the processes within his or her responsibility is properly monitored, inspected, tested and evaluated and that records of equipment operating status are prepared and available at the end of every operating shift
  • Inspects and evaluates processes and equipment that control the operation and effectiveness of water systems (WT, WD) in order to optimize performance, maintain regulatory compliance, and minimize local and/or system wide adverse impacts while taking into consideration cost, equipment capabilities, environmental impacts and OH&S
  • Monitors the performance of system process equipment and related appurtenances, including but not limited to valves, gates, pumps, compressors, engines, electric motors/generators, HVAC systems, chemical dosing equipment, etc.
  • Monitors process adjustments, operational decisions and addresses alarm conditions to ensure efficient, compliant and safe operation within established performance, regulatory and quality limits
  • Accountable for the efficient operation, in compliance with applicable regulations, of all processes within the water systems as well as for personal performance and promoting optimal team performance

Must also be able to demonstrate:
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations applicable to the operation of water facilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices necessary in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant including knowledge of flocculation, tube settling clarifiers, dual media filtration and the use of coagulation, disinfection and pH adjustment chemicals
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices necessary in the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system including the operation of water tower and booster stations, force-main swabbing and fire hydrant flushing, and water sampling
  • Ability to work with process control automation systems and interpret process information
  • An ability to alter unit process operations manually or using computerized technology to meet varying conditions.
  • Knowledge of record keeping, sampling techniques and analytical procedures including the ability to interpret and provide instruction to others to make process adjustment
  • General knowledge of basic mechanical/electrical theory and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary to work in a water treatment plant including confined space entry, use of lockout/tagging and personal protective equipment
  • Basic computer skills including ability to use basic word processing, email and spreadsheet software programs
  • An ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • An ability to prepare reports and maintain neat and accurate records

•   Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • An ability to work well in a team

Job Requirements

Must be able to:
•        Respond to provide assistance at all times, whether verbally, written (email, text) or in person
•        Ability to follow company and industry safety rules and regulations
Must have: (Minimum)
•        5 years’ experience in a similar role
•        Level II Water Treatment Certification (Ontario)
•        Level I Water Distribution Certification (Ontario)
•        Valid Class G Driver’s License (Ontario)
Asset to have:
•        Post-Secondary Education in an Environmental program
Strong mechanical aptitude (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation)
•        Supervisory and/or leadership training
