Position Purpose:
The Water Quality Process Engineer will be responsible for providing process engineering and technical support to the contract operations municipal drinking water operations located in the Northeast region of North America.
This individual will provide assistance for process troubleshooting and operational optimization for the region drinking water treatment and distribution systems, including sources of supply, treatment plants, pumping stations, storage tanks and transmission mains.
In this role, you will ensure that all drinking water projects have functional systems in place to meet regulatory and contractual compliance in the most efficient manner.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance to drinking water operations for process control, optimization and troubleshooting with on-site visits as needed.
- Support the development and implementation of internal plans and programs for the monitoring of water quality, process control and water treatment and distribution systems efficiency.
- Analyze and interpret operational and water quality data, notably through the use of Hach WIMS software or other water data management systems.
- Review engineering work performed by outside engineering firms for plant and process upgrade and review proposed changes from an operational point of view.
- Support field testing of water treatment processes at bench, pilot, and demonstration scale.
- Evaluate treatability of source water supplies based on raw water quality and treated water quality requirements and goals.
- Perform distribution hydraulic modeling to support daily operations of distribution systems.
- Prepare engineering test plans, reports, and client presentations.
- Participate in new project startup, operations audits and operator training program development.
- Prepare/review facility permitting documents for water treatment and distribution facilities.
- Evaluate impact of future regulations on water treatment requirement and drinking water distribution systems operation.
- Support business development for contract renewals and new business O&M contracts proposals.
- Evaluate and support piloting and implementation of new technologies and digital solutions.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
- Master's Degree in engineering is desired.
- Strong experience and expertise in drinking water projects engineering, hydraulic modeling, and project management is required for this role.
- 6 to 8+ years of engineering experience in related field required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Possesses broad knowledge of drinking water treatment processes and distributions systems design and operation.
- Capable of evaluating complex projects or challenges in the drinking water field and supporting response to an operation emergency.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and computer (Google Suite).
- Excellent interpersonal skills needed for successful collaboration with various stakeholders such as operators, external customers, non technical decision makers, other drinking water experts and team members.
- Experience in hydraulic modeling software and use of Hach WIMS database or other water data management systems. ESRI/GIS experience is a plus.
- Ingenuity and initiative to resolve conflicting priorities and to meet assignment deadlines.
- Ability to prepare accurate, effective and easily understood written communications, persuasive presentations, and reports.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus.
- Water Operator Licenses are a plus.
- Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Main work environment is equivalent to office environment.
- Job will require travel to sites and walk through sites and corresponding mobility and ability to travel up to 40% of the time in the Northeast region
- This job involves working primarily indoors with occasional outdoor site inspections under a variety of weather conditions to participate in system field reconnaissance, inspections, assessments and equipment installation.
