Job Description

Veolia is seeking a Utility Tech that  Performs solids processing, encompassing sludge truck operation, belt press operation, solidspolymer feed system operation, collecting solids samples, monitoring sludge level in thickeners, and operating various sludge removal equipment. Performs minor maintenance services, cleaning, painting, yard work, landscaping, treatment unit cleaning including lamella cleaning, minor belt press maintenance including lubrication and belt replacement. Performs housekeeping services including emptying trash cans, sweeping, and mopping.

Schedule: 7 AM to 3:30 PM

Summary of Job Duties: 

  • Performs belt press operations and routine and preventative maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments on belt presses and related equipment including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed equipment. Promptly reports any operational problems with belt presses or equipment to Solids Supervisor.
  • Perform manual labor including cleaning process equipment, facilities and grounds, yard work, landscaping, housekeeping, and proper disposal of waste according to safety and environmental policies. Operates vehicles for plant solids operation and small equipment as needed including a forklift, sludge truck, and Bobcat.
  • Performs facility maintenance and repair as needed and may lubricate and repair mechanical equipment, replace or install damaged glass, windows, doors, partitions, ceiling or floor tile, door locks, carpet, plumbing, and/or paint. Learns to estimate time and material costs for various projects. Trains in water plant operations May assist in other areas of plant as directed.


Job Requirements

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Some vocational training is preferred.
  • Must have a clear understanding of basic math and have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).
  • Six months to two years experience in a related position with experience in a similar environment.
  • Experience using power, pneumatic, hydraulic, and hand tools preferred.
  • Experience using material handling equipment including forklifts and manlifts preferred.
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently perform assigned duties.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Must be available for 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.
  • Must be able to work shifts on an as needed basis.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
