Assistant Plant Operator located in Fort St. James, British Columbia.
Fort St James Green Energy is a 40MW biomass electric generating plant currently in operation in British Columbia, Canada. The plant started commercial operation in the 4th quarter of 2017 and is currently in the later stages of commissioning, testing and tuning. The plant is operated and maintained by Veolia with a staff of approximately 24 FTE under a 30 year guaranteed performance contract. The plant will also be supplied by Veolia with 200,000 oven dry tons of biomass fuel per year.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Plant Operator is an entry level position and is subject to completing in-house progressive training to learn basic operations and maintenance skills in a first Class Power Plant. The Assistant Plant Operator will be required to currently possess or obtain a Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate within 18 months of employment. The Candidate will work on a 4 on 4 off shift work schedule. The Assistant Plant Operator will support all the operational, maintenance, laboratory analysis and cleaning functions of the Plant.
The Assistant Plant Operator is also expected to continue their training progression through all Operations roles within the plant, along with ongoing advancement of Power Engineering Certification. This role will provide relief coverage for the Plant Operators as required.
Primary responsibilities:
- Adhere to applicable safety and environmental standards, regulations and company policies
- Perform plant clean-up and preventative maintenance activities
- Conduct plant rounds and equipment inspections
- Operate the following heavy equipment – Skid Steer, AWP and Telehandler
- Operate Plant equipment as directed by the Shift Engineer
- Assist Operations and Maintenance crews where required
- Actively participate in preventative and corrective maintenance programs
- Conduct inspections, analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions and take corrective action, as required; initiate maintenance requests
- Maintain operating logs adhering to applicable regulations
- Inform incoming shift personnel and other persons concerned of matters requiring attention and the operating status of plant equipment
- Actively participate in the plant Lock Out/Tag Out program to ensure tasks are completed safely
- Provide relief for the Plant Operators
- Interpret plans, drawings and specifications related to operation of plant equipment
- Assist Contractors, truck drivers and visitors with their tasks
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area
- Direct, coach, train, orient and work effectively with other staff
- Participate in professional development, both internal and external
- Must continue professional education and certification
- Other related duties as assigned
