Job Description

Managing the multiple challenges of hazardous waste to satisfy safety, environmental and regulatory directives require an experienced partner with a proven record in all three areas. Veolia North America assures safety, environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance by channeling hazardous waste through this treatment, recovery and disposal locations like Azusa facility.

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for ensuring all EHS programs are implemented and maintained for Veolia facilities. Will also provide support to the Azusa, CA facility. The successful candidate will have an emphasis on core safety and environmental compliance elements. As such, the individual must have experiencing in administering OSHA, RCRA, TSCA, and DOT programs. Will ensure technical training is conducted at our facilities in order to increase EHS awareness. The safety supervisor will provide technical expertise with regards to incident investigations, accident monitoring, and trend analysis. Coordinates medical surveillance, worker's compensation, substance abuse programs, DEA controlled substances handling, as well as maintains driver qualification files. 

Acts in a liaison capacity with branch personnel regarding interpretation of all policies and procedures, pertaining to technical support and guidance on industrial hygiene, reactive and explosive, OHSA, substance abuse testing, accident prevention, etc. On an as-needed basis provides and assists in the training of emergency response techniques, safety management, risk assessment, etc. to maintain appropriate safety standards. 

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
• Knowledge in environmental, health and safety regulations (i.e. OSHA, DOT, EPA, TSCA, etc.)
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Suite, CMS, Tracer, Compliance Suite, DOT)
• Strong team player
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines
• Strong customer orientation
• Ability to travel up to 10%
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Administers programs pertaining to OSHA, medical surveillance, substance abuse testing to avoid potential liabilities and to maintain a viable workforce at the facility. 
 
• Coordinates worker’s compensation, accident, and injury management programs to determine adverse trends and administer meaningful productive standards resulting in cost effective operations.
 
 
• Participates on improvement teams while making appropriate recommendations to facilitate the needs at various facilities.
 
• Provides guidance to all levels of management within the facility regarding utilization of appropriate practices in conjunction with regulatory requirements and changes, if necessary.
 
• Provides training in environmental, OSHA, DOT, EPA, site remediation, reactive chemical operations, emergency response, etc. as needed or requested by the facility.
 

• Provides appropriate research and analysis to support the development of existing and/or potential new EH&S  policies as determined by facility management or required by federal, state, or local governmental agencies.

•     A working knowledge of AQMD, LACSD, OSHA, DTSC and EPA regulations or equivalent
 
•     Extensive knowledge on regulated & non-regulated wastewater treatment preferred.

•     EHS experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in TSDF, refineries or in chemical manufacturer.   

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:
    •Associates degree in related field required
•BS in Chemistry or related discipline preferred
•2 to 4 years in the hazardous waste industry or related work experience preferred
•2+ years in a problem-solving capacity preferred 


Certification/Licenses:
•         40-hour HAZWOPER Certification

•         Valid Drivers License
