Our Gulf Coast branch provides services for our customers located in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Within the Gulf Coast branch, Veolia operates a hazardous waste incinerator in Port Arthur, TX, a service center in Baytown, TX and a service center in College Park, GA. The Gulf Coast branch offers the following services: Lab Chemical Services, On-Site Services, Transportation, Household Hazardous Waste, Reactive Chemicals, Remediation, Training Services, Specialty Services, Drum Management, Incineration, Fuels Blending, Recycling and Radioactive Waste Management.

Job Summary:
Primary role is to direct and coordinate all team member activities to achieve team goals. The Lead Material Handler is a working team member that performs numerous material handling team tasks as required. Tasks could include: Follow procedures & direction, perform manual labor, proper usage of PPE, operate mobile equipment (manual and powered), operate fixed / stationary equipment, loading hazardous and non-hazardous materials and by-products, perform equipment inspections, and identification of various container size/type. Conducts daily inspections of loading areas and incoming/outgoing trucks to ensure operational success with hazardous and non-hazardous shipments. Ensures all duties are carried out in accordance with standard operating practices and procedures. Serves as mentor / trainer and develops other employees to ensure progression

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage assigned area while maintaining operation efficiencies. Ensures the work area is maintained, safe and organized.
• Reports all incidents and accidents to management. Wears and ensure employees wear the appropriate PPE for tasks.
• Responsible for loading and unloading hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials and by-product.
• Responsible for loading hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at designated sites utilizing appropriate equipment.
• Moves material within the facility using appropriate equipment such as hand trucks, pallet trucks, forklifts, golf cart, etc.
• Must be able to safely and properly label, lift, weigh, and store containers weighing up to 70lbs.
• Overseas and conducts daily inspections of loading areas and incoming/outgoing trucks to ensure operational success with hazardous and non-hazardous shipments.
• Verifies and fill out shipping paperwork in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Interfaces with other departments to obtain information, answer questions, and resolve problems and special requests.
• Recognize various container size and types. Properly inspect segregate and consolidate all waste stored on site.
• Reviews and maintains documents related to the preparation and shipping of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with regulations and company procedures, including shipping papers, manifest logs, etc.
• Communicates with the supervisor to ensure goals and expectations are met.
• Ensures safety and compliance is a priority. Ensures everyone works safely and wears the appropriate PPE.
• Performs spill cleanup as well as participate in remediation projects in and out of the work area.
• Have to the ability to support other operations when there’s a need.
• Must be able to work 12 hour shifts. (Day Shift 6:30am -6:30pm). This position will work in the elements both inside and outside.

 

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma and/or G.E.D. equivalent
• Minimum two year hazardous material processing and/or handling

Certification/Licenses:
• 40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
• Ability to communicate through reading and writing
• Trained in the use of material handling equipment
