Job Description

Managing the multiple challenges of hazardous waste to satisfy safety, environmental and regulatory directives require an experienced partner with a proven record in all three areas. From onsite pick-up to final treatment or disposal, Veolia North America assures safety, environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance by channeling hazardous waste through our network of over 450 company-owned or certified service centers nationwide. These service centers include treatment, recovery and disposal facilities, sales offices and transportation locations.
LAB TECHNICIAN 1
Job Summary:
Under direct supervision, responsible for performing routine tasks and simple analysis on hazardous waste samples utilizing proscribed procedures in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines.  Performs specialized analysis utilizing laboratory methods with applied quality assurance and control procedures.  Maintains the laboratory as directed for compliance with company hygiene plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  •     Perform testing of inbound and process materials in accordance with WAP using a variety of fingerprint screens, cyanide analysis and other wet chemistry methodologies to determine nature of hazardous substance.
  •         Ensure proper written and electronic documentation of all test results including QA/QC and audits sample documents prior to approval and completeness of summarizing data.
  •          Gather appropriate paperwork for management approvals and notifies staff of any incomplete sections needing attention.  Documents non-conformance of test results to WIP parameters.  Compiles and reports analysis data including QA/QC data for review.
  •         Perform periodic audits of analytical logs to ensure federal regulation compliance for completeness and error corrections.
  •          Performs analysis using specialized equipments, such as: gas chromatographs, calorimeters, KF titrators, automatic/manual flash point testers.• 
  •         Assists facility personnel with approval paperwork to ascertain accuracy and enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the disposal of hazardous waste materials.
  •          Timely communication of test results to other departments.
  •          Maintain proficiency of troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment and documents in accordance with quality assurance and control compliance.
  •          Maintaining a current status for all training and certifications.  
  •          Preparation of standards and reagents.


Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•         Perform lab housekeeping and sample management duties to ensure a clean and safe work area.  Labels lab waste containers and properly disposes of lab waste per guidelines.
•         Sample a variety of incoming waste materials and determines proper analytical methods required for compliance in accordance with establishes guidelines and training.
•         Maintains chemical and supply inventory.
•         Preparation of standard chemicals when applicable.
•         Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related science discipline preferred
  • Prior laboratory work experience preferred
     

Certification/Licenses:
  • 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training
