Job Summary:

  • The responsibilities for the position of maintenance manager includes: developing appropriate maintenance procedures and ensuring implementation; completing inspections of equipment and operations to identify and resolve issues; and checking equipment and systems of facility to ensure functionality. 
  • The successful incumbent will oversee planning, installation, repair and upkeep of maintenance operations. Select, evaluate, develop and supervise employees to ensure resources are available, trained and assigned to maximize abilities to meet business needs.
  • The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the technical aspects of maintenance operations, processes and health and safety regulations.  The candidate must be able to effectively manage maintenance operations and administrative tasks such as planning, budgeting, and reporting. 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Model and provide an active example of Integrity and Leadership. This includes conducting self in a professional manner at all times and demonstrating behaviors that are conducive to creating a safe, positive, and productive work environment. 
  • Coordinate and effectively manage the day to day maintenance activities, this includes employees and contractors, dedicated facilities, equipment and inventories. Evaluate and ensure that resources provided are efficiently and judiciously utilized.  Maintain awareness and appropriate documentation to be able to provide current and accurate statuses on activities and processes.
  • Model and lead activities to ensure the safety of self and others; ensure safe work practices and work environments.  Demonstrate a personal commitment to creating a safety culture.
  • Ensure that employees are trained properly and that appropriate safety equipment and materials are available and used at all times by employees and other staff.
  • Participate in reviewing, revising and implementing work practices to ensure safety and efficiencies.  Initiate corrective actions for any unsafe or environmentally unsound conditions. 
  • Report and provide timely notification of incidents in accordance with regulations and policies; confirm receipt of urgent information to appropriate managers and others.  Follow up and investigate safety incidents (including near misses and injuries) and ensure corrective actions are developed and implemented in order to prevent future occurrences. 
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, peers, managers, and customers. Show judgment and the ability to identify the appropriate interactions and communications to share with others, especially customer representatives.
  • Manage conflict effectively, when dealing with others; express your opinions and ideas in a respectful manner; know when to take a leadership role and know when to seek a team approach.
  • Establish a methodology and ensure kitting (staging materials) to complete work orders.
  • Serve as the site contact for contractors and vendors performing maintenance or providing parts for plant operations.  Demonstrate ability to prioritize and execute timely (with urgency) based on plant and customer needs, with internal and external resources.
  • Facilitate the development and consistent adherence to maintenance schedules and allocation of team members to complete tasks.  Provide tracking methodology to monitor scheduled compliance performance and submit results weekly.
  • Develop a competency progression matrix with required competencies required to obtain each level of progression matrix.
  • Supervise employees; provide both positive and corrective feedback timely.  Use appropriate feedback and documentation to correct behaviors. 
  • Participate in performance management process including:  Completing annual performance evaluations, conduct effective review meetings, and submitting documentation timely; submit annual merit recommendations.
  • Prioritize competing requests effectively.  Respond to requestors and use judgment to ensure that actions and implementation are consistent with direction provided by direct manager.  Review priorities for actions with direct manger as needed to ensure desired objectives and goals are met.
  • Ensure compliance with the Work Management Processes in use at the site.  Review process for effectiveness and provide opportunities for improvement to management.
  • Establish and maintain cost management and out looking process for maintenance related activities and purchases (must be current, show dependences and align with plant goals). Develop outlook template for Outlook vs Budget Monthly.
  • Establish a three year maintenance plan with estimated costs.  Coordinate business planning development and review for the site including establishing a five year asset retirement/replacement plan with defined project scopes and estimated costs.
  • Develop KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for Maintenance operations. Implement, Monitor and Evaluate Maintenance KPI’s to ensure needs for plant/production goals are reflected.  Provide Manager and others named by manager with findings and recommendations weekly or monthly or as often as appropriate.
  • Complete and submit reports, paperwork, and documentation accurately and timely as requested.
  • Support 24x7 Operations and Shutdown/Startup events as needed – On Call to include weekends, nights and holidays.
  • Perform other job duties to support effective plant operations as requested.

Job Requirements


  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical) or related field with a minimum of 5 years maintenance or operations experience – working knowledge of facilities machines and equipment.
  • In lieu of degree, 10 years of relative experience working with mechanical systems and working in operations or mechanical environments.
  • Valid driver license and maintain throughout employment.
  • Experience in planning maintenance operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership with minimum 5 years of experience effectively supervising maintenance work teams.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing and managing budgets.
  • Proficient using email, internet, spreadsheets, and word processing software (examples MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Suite of software).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, able to speak effectively in front of teams and groups – both internal and external audiences).
  •  Able to read, write and understand English.
  • Commitment to comply, model and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including operators, mechanics, safety, engineers, planners, managers, leaders, consultants, and customers, in a positive manner to achieve desired performance results.
  • Demonstrated characteristics: maturity, adaptability, self-direction - initiative, organization skills, follow up and attends to details.
  • Able to support 24X7 operations.
  • Able to travel as needed (10%).
  • Able to embrace and work effectively in a dynamic, and diverse team environments.
  • Successfully complete drug screen, physical and for safety sensitive back ground check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Wear required personal protective equipment including; clothing, gloves, respirators, safety glasses, foot protection and hard hat.
  • Lift, push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs
  • Sit periodically and for extended periods of time; climb ladders and stairs, reach below knees and above shoulders; kneel and crawl to access work areas.
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop; reach forward and grasp.
  • Enter and exit industrial vehicles without assistance.
  • Balance while walking on wet and slick surfaces, metal grates, narrow platforms/pathways, gravel, rocks and uneven surfaces. 
  • Able to walk across pathways with open enclosures at heights of 10 to 25 feet.
  • Work in loud, cold, hot, wet, dry and dusty environments; both indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather.
