Maintenance Mechanic
 
 Job Summary: 
Responsible for the maintenance of the Transportation department fleet vehicles including power units, van trailer, straight trucks, vacuum tankers, pick-up trucks, back hoe, forklifts and other miscellaneous power equipment to include planning and coordinating inspections, scheduling, performing periodic maintenance, repairing vehicles, and insuring adequate automotive supplies in stock to handle emergency situations.      

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:   

    • Schedule and/or perform periodic inspections of fleet vehicles (PM) to check for on going minor maintenance problems such as oil changes, filter replacement, tires, etc.
    • Schedule or perform maintenance on vehicles requiring welding and repairing of doors, hoods, roofs, fenders, etc. according to manufactures specifications to meet safety requirements prior to discharging vehicle back into service.  
    • Perform tune-ups to insure that quality control issues pertaining to emissions are met to maintain optimum performance of vehicle.   
    • Maintain appropriate written records on completed work performed on a variety of vehicles and forwards logs along with findings to immediate supervisor.
    • Perform data entry of maintenance inspections into preventative maintenance tracking database for DOT compliance.

    •         Maintains cleanliness and security of work area to meet appropriate safety requirements and to prevent    potential thief of tools and supplies.  
    •         Work with suppliers to maintain adequate inventory of consumable parts for maintenance. 
    •         Pick up consumable parts from local suppliers as needed.
    •         Complete the financial transactions including POs and conduct P Card Purchases as needed.
    •         Shuttle fleet trucks and equipment to and from outside vendor locations as needed.
    •         Perform light vacuum tanker maintenance including valve and fitting replacements.



Job Requirements

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
•         Familiarity with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations pertaining to the maintenance schedule, record keeping and permit qualifications for DOT permitted vehicles
•         Strong team player
•         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•         Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
•         Strong customer service orientation

•         Intermediate skill level of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)

Education/Experience:
•         High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required 

•         Prior commercial driving experience helpful
Certification/Licenses:

•         Valid Class B Commercial Driving License (CDL) required with HAZMAT and Tanker (totes) endorsement
•         Valid Class A Commercial Driving License (CDL) preferred with HAZMAT and Tanker (vac tanker) endorsement
•         40-Hour HAZWOPER training
•         Qualified FMCSA brake inspector (396.25)
