Job Description

Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Treatment Plant and Collection system for the City of Palm Springs.
Job Summary:

  • The function of this position is to perform complex maintenance and repair of all wastewater treatment and lift station equipment.
  • This is a journeymen level position. Positions at this level are distinguished from plant maintenance worker I position by the greater level of responsibility and the performance of tasks of greater complexity.
  • Employees at this level are required to have a high-level training and at least two year of increasingly responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities. 


 
Primary Functions:
  • Perform complex maintenance and repair work on all wastewater treatment plant equipment including conveyors, heavy-duty pumps and engine driven generator sets, air and sludge gas compressors, blowers, sedimentation bridges and collectors and mechanical bar screens.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules; coordinate repairs with operations and supervisory staff.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment; repair or replace parts in a timely and efficient manner to prevent major breakdowns.
  • Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repair.
  • Repair and fabricate wastewater treatment plant parts; operate welders, torches, sanders, grinders and other tools.
  • Operate a variety of maintenance and repair pneumatic and electrical power tools in a safe and effective manner.
  • With approval of supervisor, order, catalog and store repair parts according to established procedures.
  • Maintain computerized inventory of wastewater treatment plant spare parts; maintain and update equipment logs as needed.
  • Comply with environmental laws concerning storage and disposal of waste oil, Follow company safety policies, procedures and practices.
  • Enter information into the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.



Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • CWEA Mechanical Technologist II certification, desired. 
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record. 
  • Comfortable with outdoor work, exposure to extreme heat in summer and working in confined space entries.
  • Ability to work in various positions that require standing (40%), bending (30%), walking (20%), andsitting (10%).
  • Must be able to lift and carry 60 pounds while walking distances of 10 feet.
  • Ability to work on ladders, catwalks, and supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground.
  • Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic conditions, and must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Must demonstrate good knowledge of methods and techniques for repairing and maintaining treatment plant equipment and facilities.
  • Requires good knowledge of the operational characteristics of tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Requires good knowledge of the standard practices, principles, techniques, principles, common tools, materials, occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, as acquired through a minimum two years of on-the-job training.
  • Requires the ability to read and understand blue prints, shop drawings and sketches.
  • Requires the ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
