Job Description

Material Handler 1
 
Responsible for performing a variety of routine hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks in the movement of solids and liquids. Under direct supervision, tasks could include all types of manual labor in cleaning and decontamination operations, sampling, pumping, unloading and loading containers for processing at site or transportation to appropriate facilities.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Working safely including personal safety as well as that of those around you.

  • Assisting the loading/unloading/consolidation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials utilizing appropriate equipment for which you are appropriately trained.

  • Working within compliance of all plant Operating Procedures and all State/Federal rules and regulations.
  • Use a variety of tools such as impact wrenches, shovels, brooms, drum wrenches, ratchets, etc.
  • Decontaminate and dispose of empty drums and/or containers
  • Assisting completing all necessary paperwork for processing materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area and perform general housekeeping duties

  • Operation of a forklift in a Hazardous Material atmosphere
  • Use of a computer and bar code scanner to maintain container inventory and production records.

  • Ability to use an air-purifying respirator (APR).


Job Requirements

Education/Experience:
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Prior work experience of 3 to 6 months in the hazardous waste or chemical industry in a related position with proficiency in handling forklifts and a variety of tools preferred
     

Certification/Licenses:
  • 24-Hour/40-HourHAZWOPER training preferred
  • Fork lift license preferred
     

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
  • Ability to communicate through reading and writing
  • Trained in the use of material handling equipment
  • Computer skills in MS Excel
