Job Description

Summary: Veolia Water North America, the worldwide leader in water/wastewater treatment services, is looking for an licensed Plant Manager for our Hollister, CA project.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day operations and maintenance of a municipal wastewater treatment plant, site laboratory, storm water pollution prevention and source control (Industrial Pre-treatment Program), capital projects, safety, personnel, internal and external reporting, contract, finance and regulatory compliance among other duties.
  • Responds (or manages response by subordinate staff) to after-hours plant alarm calls or similar activities. May work in any and all weather conditions especially during wet season. May need to work extended or off shifts during wet weather events or plant emergencies. 

Job Requirements

Educational Background:
  • Grade IV State of California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certification required, Grade V highly preferred.
  • At least a two year degree in Business or Science or equivalent related experience with completion of an accredited management course.

  • Five to seven years progressive lead and/or supervisory experience within a water /wastewater treatment environment with thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water/wastewater treatment, water distribution and wastewater collection.
  • Requires extensive understanding and experience with safety programs and practices.
  • Requires broad knowledge and experience with various regulatory programs including hazardous materials management, air permitting, NPDES permitting, report writing, emergency management, related reporting protocols and preferably wet weather operations.

Job Skills/Characteristics:
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with an understanding of Human Resources / Relations principals.
  • Knowledge of Process / Operations Management, QA/QC procedures, Safety, Environmental and Facilities / Capital Equipment/Asset Management.
  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution, resolve conflicting priorities and to meet assignment deadlines within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose process problems and manage remedial action.
  • Responsible for budget preparation and cost control and demonstrates the ability to forecast budget, staffing and equipment needs.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications, technical documents and reports.
  • Strong PC skills with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database software, data analysis and the ability to optimize the use of technology and systems to communicate, manage budget and to streamline processes and increase efficiency.
  • Familiarity with maintenance, operation, regulatory reporting and cost estimating software.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment).
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Code of Business
  • Conduct and other Company policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.
  • Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record.
