Job Description

On St Croix, USVI, we are seeking a Sr. Lab Tech at a wastewater treatment facility.  This position will perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, and physical tests required for research, development or quality control as well as compile data for reports and assisting in special studies in the laboratory and in the field.   
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Light instrumentation preventative maintenance
- Assist in monthly EPA/Client reporting
- Daily equipment readings
- Develop new KPI's for processes
- Analyze process control techniques
- Set up equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or process control following QA procedures. 
- Clean and make minor repairs on laboratory apparatus and equipment and ensure a high standard of housekeeping, quality control and safety. 
- Calibrate instrumentation as assigned.
- Collect water samples in the field as assigned and performs tests such as turbidity, alkalinity, pH and residual chlorine.  Record and compute results from test data and maintains quality control records and charts as outlined by the Quality Assurance Program.  Perform complex quantitative and qualitative analyses to determine chemical and physical properties of experimental and developmental materials. 
- Perform trace contaminant analysis using laboratory instrumentation.  Perform investigative analysis such as break point determinations.

- Prepare chemical solutions used in performing water analysis following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.  Assist in maintaining an inventory of chemical stores.  Collect and log all Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) documents for chemical stores.

Job Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with coursework inqualitative and quantitative Chemistry or biology preferred.  (Must meet minimum qualifications establishedby regulatory agencies if working in a NELAC or State Certified Lab).
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such asprobability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solidgeometry and trigonometry.  Ability toapply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions topractical situations.
- Ability to apply principles of logic or scientificthinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism(formulae, scientific equations, graphs, etc) in more difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstractand concrete variables.
- 5+ years experience in a related position in a similarenvironment and demonstrated proficiency with sophisticated laboratoryapparatus and equipment.
- Able to perform accurate, repeatable work, to correlatedata, makes logical analysis and interprets quality control parameters.
- Proficiency with computerized lab equipment, datamanagement and related systems.
- Ability to write complex reports, business correspondenceand procedures manuals.
- Able to effectively present information and to tactfullyrespond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and thegeneral public.
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and procedures andto quickly develop proficiency in the care and use of all site specific,facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators,gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.
- Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment andwillingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe drivingrecord if performing field work.
