Job Description

Veolia operates and maintains the City of Auburn's two Wastewater Treatment Facilities and fourteen Pump Stations. Veolia is seeking an Operator 1 who will operates and maintain wastewater treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in wastewater treatment facility to purify water to meet permit and operational requirements. 

Job Requirements

- High School diploma or equivalent is required with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic math equations. Associate's degree in a science or technical area strongly preferred.
- Alabama Grade IV Wastewater Certification or be able to obtain with 1 year of employment.
- Able to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, engines, centrifuge, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, belt presses and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.
- Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), including respirators, gas detectors, confined space equipment, etc.)
- Ability to operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets under general supervision.
- Ability to diagnose process and mechanical problems in single or multiple unit processes, troubleshoot basic equipment and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
- Ability to use computer programs for process control and maintenance management system.
- Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
- Able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if needed, must be able to work rotating shifts, and must be able to work weekends, holidays, overtime and work extended hours to accommodate site needs.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Must be able to tolerate confined space entry and work in a wastewater environment.
- Willing and able to work outdoors in inclement weather, stooping, bending and lifting.
- Must live within 30 minutes of plant in Auburn, AL to meet reporting requirements
